～Lummus社とBraskem社がライセンスを持つバイオエチレン製造方法 EtE EverGreen™ がブラジル国外で初の適用～

東洋エンジニアリング株式会社(取締役社長　細井 栄治、以下TOYO)は、ブラジルのBraskem S.A. (ブラスケム、代表取締役社長　Roberto Bischoff)とタイのSCG Chemicals Public Company Limited (SCGケミカルズ、代表取締役社長　Sakchai Patiparnpreechavud)によって2023年8月に設立された合弁会社である Braskem Siam Company Limited (ブラスケム・サイアム) から、エタノール由来のバイオエチレン製造設備の基本設計業務(FEED)を受注しました。このFEED は、プロジェクトの最終投資決定（FID）に関わる重要なステップとなります。

 

最終製品である I’m green™バイオポリエチレン は、化石原料 (石油由来のナフサなど) からではなく、サトウキビ由来のエタノールなどの再生可能な原料から製造されます。この製造方法は、Lummus社とBraskem社がライセンスを持つEtE EverGreen™が適用されており、CO₂を大気中から回収することにより、最終プラスチック製品のカーボンフットプリント(CFP)*を大幅に削減します。バイオエチレンは、プラスチックの一種であるポリオレフィン製造の主要な原料として、食品包装、家庭用品、おもちゃなど、サステナブルなプラスチック製品の製造を可能にします。 バイオベースの製品を選択することで、製造会社はネットゼロの目標に向かって前進することができ、循環型経済の成長に貢献します。そのため、 このバイオエチレン製造設備は、さまざまなプラスチック消費材の脱炭素化に大きく貢献することが期待されています。

 

今回のFEED受注は、TOYOのタイにおけるエチレンプラントを含むプラント建設の豊富な経験が評価されたものです。TOYOは、プラントエンジニアリング事業で培った知見を活かし、両社の石油化学分野の成長を牽引するとともに、カーボンニュートラル社会の実現に向けた取り組みを進め 、成長著しい東南アジア市場の発展に貢献していきます。

TOYO Awarded Ethanol to Ethylene Project in Thailand

~The EtE EverGreen™ process technology licensed by Lummus and Braskem B.V. will be the first application outside Brazil~

Toyo Engineering Corporation (President and CEO Eiji Hosoi, TOYO) has been awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for an ethanol to ethylene production facility by Braskem Siam Company Limited. This company is a joint venture between Braskem S.A. (President and CEO Roberto Bischoff) of Brazil and SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited (CEO and President Sakchai Patiparnpreechavud) of Thailand, and was inaugurated in August 2023. The FEED is the next step in the process leading up to the Final Investment Decision (FID), which will determine the execution of the project.

 

The I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene will be produced from renewable feedstock such as ethanol derived from sugarcane, instead of traditional fossil-based feedstock like petroleum-derived naphtha using the EtE Evergreen™ ethanol-to-ethylene process technology licensed by Lummus and Braskem B.V. This innovative approach significantly reduces the carbon footprint (CFP)* of final plastic products by capturing CO₂ from the atmosphere. The bio-based ethylene will serve as key raw material in the production of polyolefins, enabling the creation of more sustainable plastic products, such as food packaging, household goods, toys, safety equipment. Opting for bio-based options enables manufacturing companies to progress towards their net-zero goals and contributes to the growth of the circular economy. This project is expected to contribute meaningfully to the decarbonization of various plastic consumer goods.

 

The contract award is a recognition of TOYO’s established expertise and proven track record in Thailand, coupled with extensive experience in the construction of ethylene plants. TOYO will leverage its industry-leading expertise in plant engineering to drive growth in the petrochemical sector for both companies, while also advancing efforts toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society and contributing to the development of the rapidly growing Southeast Asian market.

 

*Total greenhouse gas emissions, measured in CO2 equivalents, produced throughout the lifecycle of a product or service from feedstock procurement to disposal and recycling.
